Not A Hotel

Yakushima, Japan

Jan 1, 2026

Overview

A villa designed to truly experience this raw contoured landscape of Yakushima, Japan. Two interconnected rings create a quiet journey: the lower circle immerses you among the forest, surrounded by trees, ponds, and rocks; the upper circle rises with the site’s natural slope, lifting you above the canopy to reveal the stunning coastline and ocean horizon. The island’s constant rainfall is embraced, it cascades from the upper courtyard into the lower one, turning every downpour that becomes a waterfall visible from the comfort of your living room. A moment you look forward to. Not just a place to stay, but a place to fully experience Yakushima for what it is: raw, alive, and unforgettable.
